New year, New menu!
Here at Towerview Care, we are passionate about providing nutritious, well-balanced, home-cooked food for our Ladies and Gentlemen.
Eating and drinking can be problematic for people living with dementia. Still, a healthy diet will improve a person’s quality of life. We make sure that our ladies and gentlemen have a wide choice of meals and snacks available throughout the day.
Not eating correctly can lead to weight loss and other problems including fatigue, higher risk of infection and less muscle strength. It is easy for people with dementia to become dehydrated. Sometimes this is because they are unable to communicate or recognise that they are thirsty, or if they have forgotten to drink. This can lead to headaches, increased confusion, urinary tract infection and constipation. All these symptoms can make dementia much worse and harder to treat.
There are lots of ways to increase a person’s appetite and interest in food and drink. Our care teams have built relationships with our ladies and gentlemen and know what they do and don’t like. They can communicate with them and are aware of their needs.
Which is why our executive head chef has been working with our ladies and gentlemen, families and staff teams to come up with some fantastic new menus. All our ingredients are locally sourced, seasonal produce. This allows our executive head chef, Rob Southgate, to be able to prepare meals to suit the needs of our ladies and gentlemen here at Towerview Care.
Rob Southgate and his team
Rob knows that making food look and smell appealing is the first step in building an appetite. He is using dementia-friendly colours for food and tableware to help increase appetites. Some people with dementia can experience changes in their ability to be able to pick out an object from its background. So, using an intense primary colour can help people to differentiate the items on the plate. Rob is making sure that our ladies and gentlemen have a great choice of traditional home-cooked meals that look as good as they taste.
Sadly, we are not taking any reservations – this is exclusive to our Ladies and Gentlemen here at Towerview Care!
